Electro-Mechanical Engineering Services
IST Precision’s electro-mechanical engineering team combines expertise in mechanical design, electronics, sensors, and motion control to create fully integrated systems. We specialize in solving multi-domain engineering challenges, where electrical and mechanical elements must work together precisely and dependably. Examples include a customized motion control platform capable of moving a small sample repeatably to a region the size of an atom, and a system that can rotate a 2-foot, 300-pound mass to any position within a thousandth of a degree in less than a second.
Whether you’re developing a new product, building specialized automation equipment, or optimizing an existing platform, IST’s cross-disciplinary team can design, prototype, and deliver tightly coupled electro-mechanical solutions tailored to your application.

Core Electro-Mechanical Capabilities
Our team brings together mechanical engineers, electronics specialists, and control system developers to deliver:
Custom actuators and motion assemblies with embedded control
Piezoelectric stages for high speed and precise motion
Custom voice coil stage designs
Motor and drive system integration, including stepper and servo motors
Sensor selection and integration (position, force, vibration, temperature, etc.)
Electro-mechanical packaging and thermal management
Wiring harnesses and PCB-to-mechanical interface design
Air bearing and low-friction stage integration
Designed for Compactness and Accuracy
Electro-mechanical systems which often are custom stages are designed for a customized foot print and accurate positioning capability. Our process ensures that:
- Precision engineering design principles are being followed
- Environmental factors are being mitigated
- Optimal form factors are being addressed in the design
- State-of-the-art feedback and actuators are being considered
- Appropriate design tolerances are being followed and balanced with manufacturing costs.
Because we prototype and test in-house, we can validate designs quickly, reduce development cycles, and deliver optimized performance.
Common Applications and Industries
We develop electro-mechanical solutions for a wide range of industries and use cases, including:
High-speed piezoelectric stages for the disc drive & life science industries
Laser steering gimbal systems for the telecom industry
Large-scale air bearing goniometer stages for the metrology industry
Custom industrial automation and robotic subsystems
Laser galvo systems for advanced automation
Wireless time-of-flight sensors for medical applications
Vibration isolation platforms
Test fixtures and dynamic mechanical assemblies
